Attempt no. 4 at restarting blogging, acknowledging the march of time and turning 40. Ten years ago I said here’s to the next, so I guess… I’m still here(-ish)!

Bit Stories is the reboot to my personal site that I’ve been carrying with me for years. The file which has the logo was dated 2008, for cryin’ out loud. I just didn’t do it for so many years.

This is completely different - I’m off Wordpress, I’m getting used to the idea of blogging in a completely different framework, I’m getting onto modernisation of my pipeline by going backwards to a non-CMS setup. It will be interesting to see if the lower weight of the setup helps or hinders.

I initially set up my blog with the intent to write and post a bunch of fiction alongside the personal entries, and then the internet shifted around me, and it tried to evolve into commentary and links and all manner of things. And then we all migrated to social media and that seemed to put paid to that.

I’m looking to re-engage those writing muscles and I hope to spark something with bitstories that I’ve been sorely missing in the time since - a space to write and refine and explore. The decadeal marker is definitely part of it - spending my 30s doing things ‘irl’ was certainly worth it, and now I’m looking at what’s next.

I will be cleaning up posts and things that I no longer endorse; I am a very different person in the 20 years since I started, as I would hope would be inevitable, and it does no good to carry forward things which we would now regret.

The intent is to post at least weekly, whether it be journal-type entries, prose, or something else which sparks interest. I hope to find an audience again, and build something beyond the stream which exists in social media profiles. Stay tuned.
